Why 2012 is set to be the worst British summer for 100 years
It is set to be the wettest summer for 100 years.
June, July and August saw exceptional amounts of rainfall – particularly across England and Wales.
It is also been a relatively cool and dull summer.
We have had six rotten summers in a row – we have not have decent summer since 2006. And this year has been even more disappointing.
It is all due to the Jet Stream – a term we have heard quite a bit. It has been sitting a little further south this year allowing us to be exposed to cooler, wetter conditions from the north and from the Atlantic.
As for future summers – we simply do not know. We have no pattern to our weather really.
Seasons can get quite mixed up. We can get snow in April and 30c in October.
There is a view we are heading towards a warmer, wetter climate as warm air can hold more moisture.
