Entire US town is set to go under the hammer
The town at the site of the legendary 1876 battle of Little Bighorn is up for sale.
Garrytown, Montana, with its population of two, is to be sold to the highest bidder at an auction being held today.
The town sits on on 7.7 acres of Montana's Crow Indian Reservation, including the battlefield where General George Armstrong Custer and his 7th Cavalry made their infamous and failed 'Last Stand' against Native American tribes.
Today, the town is next to a popular tourist exit just off US Interstate 90. It consists of a petrol station, a general store, a sandwich shop, living quarters and the Custer Battlefield Museum - although the museum is not included in the lot.
Bidding will be on-site and online, starting at $250,000 dollars. The auction will be conducted by auction house Williams & Williams, which in April sold the town of Buford, Wyoming for $900,000.
Manuscripts from the Custer curated by the widow of George Armstrong Custer will be separately on sale at the same auction.
