Marilyn Monroe legend lives on 50 years after her death

Marilyn Monroe was found dead 50 years ago today in her Brentwood home in Los Angeles. She was 36 years old.

But her legend lives on. She still appears in movies. In 2011 she was immortalised in My Week With Marilyn, with Michelle Williams playing the title role.

In re-released news reel footage that was aired just after her death the actress is described as "a beautiful girl who showed that she had more attributes than mere beauty."

In the film she is shown going to the premiere of her film The Seven Year Itch with second husband, baseball legend Joe Di Maggio.

The Hollywood actress made over 30 movies including classics The Prince and the Showgirl.

A memorial for the movie star is being held in the very same chapel where her funeral was held in 1962.
