Image of The Queen projected onto the Rock of Gibraltar

A Diamond Jubilee light show featuring an image of The Queen and the Union Flag has lit up the Rock of Gibraltar.

The images from the disputed British territory were visible for several miles along the southern coast of Spain.

It coincided with a visit to the British Colony by Prince Edward and his wife Sophie.

Spain complained to the British government about the visit, saying it viewed the trip as offensive.

The Spanish government also cancelled a visit to London by Queen Sofia of Spain.

Edward and Sophie's three day trip to Gibraltar included a visit to the British Forces Headquarters and the inauguration of a new airport terminal.
