Fans looking forward to the latest Quentin Tarantino film "Django Unchained" got a sneak peek today, with the release of a teaser trailer for the action packed period piece.

The film stars Oscar winner Jamie Foxx in the title role as a freed slave who is befriended by a German dentist-turned-bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz), who helps Django free his wife from the evil plantation owner Calvin Candie.

The film also stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kerry Washington.

The trailer shows a film with classic Tarantino qualities - excessive violence, unlikely friendships, and genre blending, combining American old-west visuals with retro-1970s funk music.

It is Tarantino's ninth directed feature and is planned for a December 25th (2012) release date.

'Django' trended worldwide on Twitter for most of the day as excited film fans shared links to the trailer.
