George W. Bush portrait unveiled at the White House
George W. Bush returned to the White House today to unveil a portrait of himself and First Lady Laura Bush.
President Obama welcomed his predecessor by jokingly thanking him for "going out of his way" to help him settle in by leaving the sports package on the TV. Robert Moore reports.
George W. Bush then made an emotional speech thanking his extended family and his two daughters for being there, and for all of the support and "unconditional love" they offered him during his time as president.
George W. Bush introduced his wife as "the greatest First Lady ever" before adding "sorry mom."
Laura Bush received a standing ovation for her speech, and made a few jokes herself saying:
She said she was humbled to be there, as she was humbled to be First Lady. She thanked her mother-in-law Barbara Bush for helping her adjust to the role.
Michelle Obama then paid tribute to Laura Bush for providing her with a role model of what a First Lady could be. She said:
Michelle Obama said the Bush family were "at the other side" of where she hoped to be in a few years, with two daughters who sit up straight and "think lovingly of their parents."
It has been two years since president Number 43 last visited the White House.
