CCTV proves millionaire daughter's role in London riots
A millionaire's daughter has been jailed for two years for her role in a looting spree at the height of the London riots last summer.
Laura Johnson, 20, chauffeured a group of acquaintances wearing bandanas and balaclavas to a series of shops which they burgled.
The court was shown CCTV showing Johnson getting into the black Smart car in a petrol forecourt on 8th August 2011.
At Inner London Crown Court today, Johnson was sentenced for two years in prison for one count of burglary and two years for one of handling stolen goods, to run concurrently.
Johnson, a student at Exeter University, claimed in a statement to the police that she had never met most of the passengers in the car and that she was ordered to act against her will.
She told police: "I didn't get the impression they were the sort of people you say no to."
Johnson and accomplice Christopher Edwards, 17, were both convicted of burgling a Comet store at the Greenwich Retail Park and stealing electrical goods between August 7 and 10.
They were also convicted of handling stolen goods following a trial in April.
Edwards was told he would serve 12 months at a young offenders institution.
Johnson was accompanied at court by her parents, Lindsay and Robert Johnson, both of whom are directors of companies. Mr Johnson said his daughter may appeal the conviction.
