Alan Titchmarsh writes book on The Queen

Alan Titchmarsh has written a book on HRH Queen Elizabeth, to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee, entitled 'Elizabeth - Her Life, Our Times'.

Titchmarsh has met The Queen numerous times and has interviewed many of her family and friends.

In 1999 he was awarded an MBE by the Queen. HRH famously said to him during the presentation:

Titchmarsh told This Morning presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield he would like to have that particular compliment inscribed on his tombstone.

His book is based on The Queen's Christmas messages and is "packed" full of nice pictures of her. Each chapter of the book commemorates a decade in the her reign.

He says Her Royal Highness is really very friendly and that he has was very flattered by the freeness of their conversation, during the several times he has had the pleasure of her company.

Titchmarsh said he wanted to write the book because of his personal relationship with the family. He is a friend of Prince Charles and has been granted interviews with Prince Philip, the Princess Royal, and some of the women who served as bridesmaids at her wedding.

Titchmarsh says he was surprised that The Queen does not understand why the public are so interested in her. She said to him during one of their meetings:
