Olympic tower unveiled as tallest sculpture in the UK
The ArcelorMittal Orbit, the UK's tallest sculpture, has been unveiled in the Olympic Park in Stratford. The 114.5 metre monument was designed by Turner Prize-winning artist Anish Kapoor, collaborating with structural designer Cecil Balmond.
It's the tallest sculpture in the UK and stands 22 metres taller than the Statue of Liberty. Constructed using 2,000 tonnes of steel it's thought the sculpture could attract 5,000 visitors per day.
It's hoped the tower will become an iconic tourist attraction when it is opened to the public on July 28th.
