'Nice': Kazakhstan thanks Borat for tourism increase
The Kazakhstan foreign minister has thanked Sacha Baron Cohen for his creation of 'Borat' after applications for visas increased by ten-fold after the film.
The 2006 film, 'Borat: Cultural Learnings Of America For Make Glorious Nation Of Kazakhstan' was banned in the country because of it's portrayal of the former soviet state.
The film parodied life in rural Kazakhstan and showed 'Borat' leave for America but struggling as he tried to adapt to Western life.
The film was huge commercial success but was not seen in Kazakhstan with the authorities even banning access to Sacha Baron Cohen's website.
The Government have been vocal in the past in their criticism of the film, but according to news agency AFP, Yerzhan Kazykhanov told a session of parliament that it had helped tourism:
