One in 10 children cannot find the UK on a map
One in 10 children cannot find the UK on a map according to a survey of 1,000 children between the ages of six and 10.
The Heathrow study also revealed that 41% of them did not know that the UK is in Europe.
It also found:
78% of the children polled had been abroad
48% had been to Spain by the age of 10
42% had been to France by the age of 10
However:
45% could not find Spain on a map
36% were unable to identify the location of France
Children were also asked to name countries in Europe:
The USA was the third most popular holiday destination, with one in 20 of the children surveyed believing it shared a border with the UK.
Perhaps explaining their lack of knowledge when it comes to geography, 24% of the children said they did not know what an atlas was.
Heathrow has installed giant globes in its terminals to help children locate their destination - and maybe help some of them find the UK.
