Marie Colvin's funeral takes place in New York
Hundreds of mourners have turned out to pay their respects at the funeral for Sunday Times journalist Marie Colvin, who was killed last month in Syria. It took place near her home town on Long Island. Colvin, who was 56, was killed alongside French photographer Remi Ochlik on the 22nd of February as they reported from the besieged city of Homs.
The funeral service was held at St. Dominic Roman Catholic Church in Oyster Bay, where she first decided to become a reporter.
Colvin had first joined the Sunday Times in 1985, and had reported from many of the world's most dangerous places, including Chechnya, Bosnia and Afghanistan. In one of her last interviews before she was killed she hinted at what drove her, as she recounted seeing a baby boy die in front of her during the shelling of Homs.
ITV News' international editor Bill Neely had worked with her, and in his blog reflected on his time spent with Colvin, calling her "brave" for her work on the front line.
A British photographer was injured alongside Colvin during the shelling in Homs. After his escape Paul Conroy said that leaving her was "one of the hardest decisions" he ever had to make.
