April Fool! John's 'gonion' pasta sauce
John Whaite plays an April Fool on us all with his hybrid 'gonion' sauce - did you fall for it?
Fool or no fool you can still use his recipe to make a tasty pasta sauce!
(Serves 4)
Ingredients:
2 tbsp olive oil2 garlic cloves, crushed1 small onion, chopped400g tin chopped tomatoes1 tsp sea salt1 tsp sugarSplash of balsamic vinegarA handful of torn basil leaves400g spaghetti
To serve:
Parmesan cheese shavings (optional)
Method:
For the sauce, heat the oil in a pan, add the garlic and onion. Cook for a few minutes until softened.
Stir in the tomatoes, season with salt and pepper and balsamic vinegar. Bring to the boil, then reduce the heat, and simmer uncovered for five minutes.
Stir in the basil leaves and toss with cooked pasta. Sprinkle with parmesan if using to serve.
