Jane Danson: 'Coronation Street's miscarriage storyline got me talking about my personal experience'
CORRIE'S JANE DANSON: 'KYM MARSH WAS SUPPORTIVE ABOUT MY MISCARRIAGE'
Jane has been on Coronation Street for 20 years and her character Leanne Battersby is currently at the centre of a plot after having Steve McDonald’s baby Oliver.
And today Jane opened up about how the recent miscarriage storyline surrounding Leanne, Michelle Connor and Steve made her more comfortable discussing her own personal experience.
'It was interesting listening to what you were talking about earlier, about bottling up your feelings and not talking about it – which is something that I did,' Jane explained.
'I’m quite an emotional, heart on my sleeve, kind of person – but that was something I chose to keep to myself because it was my own personal journey.'
'But then this storyline came up. Kym [Marsh] and I had never really worked together before and we knew that after what we’d both been through, it was going to be tough,' Jane said.
'In a way, it kind of helped me a little bit because I didn’t talk about it. It got me talking about it and Kym was incredibly supportive, even though she’d sadly been through a devastating experience herself.'
Steve was married to Michelle when she tragically lost the couple's baby boy, Ruairi, at 23 weeks.
The storyline was made all-the-more poignant given actress Kym Marsh lost her own son, Archie, in similar circumstances.
Simon Gregson (Steve) also opened up at the time that he and his wife had suffered multiple miscarriages.
On the show, Jane, who has sons Harry, 10, and seven-year-old Sam with husband Robert Beck, was also sent a video message from Georgia Taylor who plays her onscreen sister Toyah.
