Sir Trevor McDonald on his James Bulger documentary: 'Denise is an amazing lady'
LEGENDARY BROADCASTER SIR TREVOR MCDONALD SPOKE ABOUT HIS LATEST PROJECT JAMES BULGER: A MOTHER'S STORY.
One of Britain's most respected newsreaders and journalists, Sir Trevor McDonald has had a career spanning over 50 years. Still investigating at nearly 80, he joined us to discuss his latest project, James Bulger: A Mother's Story, as well as revealing what it was like meeting some of the world's most dangerous prisoners.
A Mother's Story, which airs tonight, looks into the life of James Bulger's mum Denise Fergus, and the absolute trauma of the days that unfolded in February 1993.
"It was a privilege in a way and kind of heartbreaking to hear her recall the events as if they were kind of immediate," he explained. "Denise is an amazing lady and it's very clear the events of that day and that moment will never leave her. You feel privileged but still a bit intrusive."
The panel also asked Trevor about his recent documentary Death Row 2018, where the journalist visited Indiana State Prison's death row. "It was a horrible place to be in, he said. "I was quite terrified."
