Saira Khan breaks down in tears and reveals: 'I was abused as a child'
SAIRA KHAN REVEALS SHE WAS ABUSED AS A CHILD
Saira broken down on the show when discussing the incredible Pakistani woman Mukhtar Mai who has set up a charity for women after being gang raped in her village.
Saira said: 'This woman inspired me. I've never said this before but a male member of my family came into my bedroom when I was 13 and did things to me.’
Bursting into tears and supported by her Loose Women friends, Saira said: 'For any young child or woman, someone touching them without permission is WRONG. It happens in our homes as well. It's not culturally acceptable or religiously acceptable and it happens everyday.'
'Sorry, guys I wasn't expecting to say it and I'm only saying it now as the man is dead,’ she added. 'I told my mother and my brothers years later and my mum was amazing. I feel like I've got one over him now. I feel inspired to not keep it private.'
The audience gave her a standing ovation and Saira left the studio to compose herself before returning later, saying, 'Thanks so much for your support,' she said. 'I'm OK. I am a strong woman.’
Saira was overwhelmed with messages of support from viewers.
