Robbie Williams reveals back pain hell: 'I had daily injections. They were going to operate and break two ribs!'
ROBBIE WILLIAMS OPENS UP ABOUT HIS RECENT HEALTH SCARE
He was forced to cancel some of his tour dates and Robbie explained the health issues which caused him so much bother this year.
‘I got a really bad back at the start of the year and it was really debilitating, then I had to go on tour, and at the best of times I have to be 100% to go on tour because its really demanding,' he explained.
‘I had a slipped disc in the middle of my back, and a slipped disc in my neck and arthritis in the bottom of my back so I was a mess. I was taking injections to go on each night and as the tour went on it just caught up with me. But I managed to do 97% of the tour and I missed out Russia. But I haven’t missed a show since 1998 so I’ve got a pretty good record.’
Robbie was offered surgery for the slipped disc, but revealed it would have left him bed bound for nearly a year.
‘I was going to [have surgery]… the operation they wanted to do for me was to break two of my ribs, go in through the back, and put a plate on my ribs. And then I was going to have to lie down for 8 months. The recuperation was 8 months of me and YouTube and [to panelists] you lovely people.’
Robbie's now overhauled his diet and health regime - and taken up yoga!
‘I’m doing plant-based stuff,’ he said but explained he's not gone vegan. ‘I’m more vegan than I was but I’m on my way there… I wanted to do anything to make the back better and I heard if you eat a lot of meat you get a lot of inflammation, and I decided to go plant based and it sorted me out.
‘I’ve got to say for anyone out there with back problems to try the same thing out… the physical therapy, the taking care of yourself. You know I’m 43, I’m not 23 anymore.’
