Ricky Tomlinson and Sue Johnston pay emotional tributes to 'wonderful, cheeky' Caroline Aherne

The Royle Family's Ricky Tomlinson and Sue Johnston told the Loose Women heartwarming stories about their beloved friend, Caroline Aherne, as they reunited to mark the fourth anniversary of her death.

The Royle Family co-creator and writer passed away in 2016 at the age of 52 after a battle with lung cancer.

Speaking to the panel via video link, the pair explained how Caroline brought joy to their working life by making the set of The Royle Family a wonderful place to be.

"She was the most generous of women and that showed in her spirit," said Sue, who became a little emotional as she showed the Loose Women a special portrait of Caroline, which she keeps at the bottom of her stairs.

"She was wonderful wasn't she? But she was cheeky. She was really, really cheeky!" Ricky added, sharing a very funny story about a naughty filming mishap involving Jim Royle's famous underpants.

Watch Ricky and Sue's full tribute to Caroline and hear about their Royle Family (and Brookside) memories in the video above. And catch the rest of the show on the ITV Hub.
