Pop Idol Michelle McManus hits back at weight bullies: 'There's been some hurtful stuff but you just need to let it go'
MICHELLE MCMANUS PERFORMS ON THE SHOW AND TALKS ABOUT HER RECENT WEDDING!
Michelle joined Choirs With Purpose - 12 choirs from across the UK have joined forces -to perform charity single We All Stand Together, a cover of Paul McCartney’s 1984 hit.
And Michelle stayed with us to talk about her career after winning Pop Idol in 2003 as well as giving us the gossip on her September wedding where she married James Hartness.
Michelle and James got married in Scotland and when asked about her family traveling to Mallaig, she explained, 'It was six hours on the train. I went to ScotRail and said, "Can we buy a couple of carriages?" I know what my crowd are like going up and I didn’t want any random, American tourists bumping into my family on the way up and thinking this is the way people travel in Scotland. One of my friends had a drinks trolly!'
Michelle also opened up about dealing with negative comments about her weight on social media.
'You’re not naive to think you’re not a size 20-plus woman. You won’t go on telly and think no-one will notice you are a big, heavy girl,' Michelle said.
'You can never control what people think, it doesn’t matter. You can be the thinnest or the most beautiful person in the world, but you cannot control what other people say and how they’ll view you, especially on social media. What’s the point?
'There's been some hurtful stuff but I've got a great life. People will always have their opinions and you just need to let it go. Treat people the way you want to be treated.'
We All Stand Together is out now and you can pre order the album, Stand Together, online before its release on December 15. Watch the video of the performance below.
