Gareth Malone: 'Music helped me when I was being bullied as a kid'

GARETH MALONE ON HOW MUSIC SAVED HIM FROM BULLYING

We all love Gareth for encouraging everyone to sing and today he spoke to Andrea, Anne, Janet and Stacey about how music was his escape from bullying at school.

'I was the only ginger kid at school. It was like a mushroom. I was a fright but look at me know,' Gareth said.

'One person's bullying is another person's bit of fun. I think if they had any idea what they were doing to you they wouldn't do it. I'm now 42 this year and I'm at a stage were I can let it go,' he added.

'Music really helped me when I was a kid. So all the work I do know, performing or working with other performers, I know what music can do. I know it can help people and it helped me.'

'Being bullied, I had a sense of, "Stuff you, I'm off to the music room, I'm going to join the choir and I don't care what you think." I've always been like that - I had a core of knowing what I want to do. I've been obsessed with music since I was seven or eight and it's probably got worse.'
