Exclusive: Dee Kelly on her depression and suicide attempt 'I couldn't see what I had at the time'
Dee Kelly has talked candidly about experiencing depression and wanting to end her life earlier this year.
The Benefits Street star - aka White Dee - attempted to take her own life with a mixture of pills and alcohol on Easter Sunday earlier this year.
Dee was emotional as she opened up about how she treated her two children Caitlin, 18, and Gerrard, nine, before the day.
‘I just thought I would save them some time. I thought they didn't deserve a mother like me,’ she said. ‘You just feel so sorry for yourself. I couldn't see what I had at the time.’
‘I wasn't very nice,’ she said. ‘I was horrible. I was vile to my kids. I told them that I didn't want them in my house and that they were killing me. I just snapped. How would they have been able to live with that?’
One in four of us will suffer from some form of mental health issue in any given year and we at loose Women think that is something we should be talking about. Our Lighten the Load campaign is all about talking and listening. Talking if you’ve been affected, or being there to listen to someone who is going through a period of stress.
