Daniel Lapaine, star of The Durrells, talks body image and family life

Daniel Lapaine is know for his role as the hunky leading man in Muriel's Wedding, and now he is wooing Keeley Hawes' character in the ITV drama The Durrells.

Daniel joined Nadia, Linda, Andrea and Kay to talk about his character Hugh Jarvis in the series and confessed that filming in Corfu was more of a holiday than hard work.

He said: 'It's one of the very few shows everyone can watch- kids, grandparents.'

Linda asked if seeing the trailer for the last series had made him want to take part.

He said: 'I remember seeing the trailer and thinking "they are so lucky, those actors."'

'I was filming for two months, it was incredibly difficult,' he joked. ''The sun, the food, baked feta.'

Daniel's character Hugh Jarvis drives a vintage car in the show and Daniel said one of the perks of filming was getting to drive it around Corfu.

He said: 'They kept saying "are you comfortable driving the car?" and I said "no I need more practice". So they let me go out and drive for three hours around the island, exploring. It was great.'

The panel also asked him about his part in the cult 90s comedy Muriel's Wedding, with Andrea confessing she had seen the film roughly 4,000 times.

Daniel said he chose different roles after Muriel's Wedding to avoid always being known as 'the hunk'.

He said: 'That's why I got into acting, to do different things and not just be that guy.'

'Also going to the gym is boring. As soon as they cut on the last scene I ate cake.I'd left dram school in Australia, I wanted to get back to what I had been studying.'

'I think men have a real pressure on them as well. I know that sounds silly and they don't have to have the same challenges on them as women have, but I think men have the same issues as well.'

Daniel said a website had recently looked back on pictures of the cast from Muriel's Wedding with pictures of them then and now.

Daniel said: 'The headline of the article was "Click if you're sad to see Daniel Lapaine now."''It's not nice but it's the world you enter when you're an actor or in the public eye.'

Daniel is married to Cold Feet star Fay Ripley, the pair have been married for 16 years and have two children together.

Nadia said she'd heard that Fay had hunted Daniel down he said: 'I decided on her. I hunted her down. I think we both hunted each other. It was mutual hunting.'

'She's an extraordinary women.'
