Coronation Street's Ian Bartholomew finds it 'difficult' to watch Geoff and Yasmeen's coercive control scenes
If you've been finding it tough to watch Coronation Street's coercive control storyline you're not alone - even Ian Bartholomew, who plays abusive Geoff, says he finds it "quite difficult" to watch co-star Shelley King's Yasmeen being mistreated on screen.
The actor joined the Loose Women to reveal he's recorded a single to raise money for those affected by domestic abuse and opened up about his feelings on the soap's incredibly important storyline.
"[Geoff the character] seeing Yasmeen crumble in front of him, is very different to Ian the actor, watching Shelley crumble in front of him," he told Christine, Linda, Jane and Nadia. "That's what's been most upsetting for me."
But he stressed how important it was to have such a storyline played out on screen, citing the rise in calls to domestic abuse helplines during lockdown.
"You can't see it, it's quiet, it's always in the dark, as it were," he said of domestic abuse and coercive control. "We need to bring it out into the light."
