Inspirational Catrin Pugh proudly reveal her scars after surviving 96 per cent burns
COURAGEOUS CATRIN PUGH JOINS US TO BARE ALL IN SUPPORT OF OUR BODY STORIES CAMPAIGN FOLLOWING A COACH ACCIDENT WHICH LEFT HER WITH A 0.01 PER CENT CHANCE OF SURVIVAL.
Catrin Pugh, from Wrexham in South Wales, is a 96 per cent burns survivor. In 2013, aged 19, she was travelling by coach in the French Alps after the trip of a lifetime when it crashed and burst into flames. She spent three months in an induced coma and had 200 operations as well as rehabilitation. Told she had a 0.1 per cent chance of survival, she pulled through. Now, she’s begun rebuilding her life and says that by showing her scars she hopes to encourage others to feel less ashamed or embarrassed about theirs.
'I cried when I woke up and had one and a half hands instead of two,' Catrin revealed. 'But now those hands allow me to do everything.
'When I first looked at my face I sobbed and sobbed for weeks but I can't imagine hiding my smile... Now I know my scars are beautiful.'
Talking about about her awareness of the incident, she explained: 'I was sat right behind the driver, he unfortunately lost his life but saved everyone else’s,' she explain. 'Rather than run he stayed at the front knowing he would loose his life.
'I remember being alight unfortunately. My arm was multicoloured and the skin wasn’t where it should have been.
'I remember it felt like stinging but numbness at the same time, it’s a very difficult thing to describe.'
Talking about the support she received from Katie Piper, Catrin explained that meeting her was one of the reasons that she was able bare her own scars. And Katie herself sent in a video, telling Catrin, 'You're an incredible woman, you inspired me when I first met you and you inspire me now.
