Call The Midwife actor Stephen McGann: 'My twin brothers tragically died at birth'

CALL THE MIDWIFE ACTOR STEPHEN MCGANN OPENS UP ABOUT HIS TRAGIC FAMILY PAST

He's most famous for his role as Doctor Patrick Turner in Call The Midwife. And while talking about his pride in the show actor Stephen McGann shared a very personal story about his mother tragically lost his eldest brothers at birth in the 1950s.

'It's to do with the McGann brothers. The oldest of the McGan brothers sadly died at birth, they were twins,' Stephen revealed. 'They were called Joseph and John. My mum was a 'Call The Midwife' girl - a 1950s young mum. Her first pregnancy was unsuccessful and she had a really traumatic pregnancy.

'In those days, you didn't have what you have now where you can bury little kids with all the honours. They had to be put in someone else's coffin. And because mum was very sick in hospital, they went in with someone and she didn't know where they had gone.'

'It was in the late 1950s. It was very kind because the family had to agree to let the little things go in with them. It happened through the church.'

'My mum was never able to grieve. And right into the mid-nineties, one day my mum said, "I've had enough of this. I need to find them." And she found the grave and we have a plaque on the grave now - my two eldest brothers.'
