Tour 2015 Stage 1 highlights: Rohan Dennis rides storming time trial in Utrecht to take yellow jersey
BMC's time trial specialist Rohan Dennis blitzed his rivals on the streets of Utrecht to win Stage 1's individual TT and earn the Australian the first yellow jersey of the 2015 Tour de France.
Dennis set a fearsome pace in very warm weather as he went out first of the favourites and he finished the 13.8km course in 14mins 56secs. TT monster Tony Martin finished second, with Swiss powerhouse Fabian Cancellara in third.
Dennis' average speed of 55.45kph was the fastest recorded in a Tour time-trial, despite the technical, twisty 13.8-kilometres course through the centre of Utrecht in Holland.
As Dennis claimed yellow, defending champion Vincenzo Nibali stole some potentially vital seconds ahead of his GC rivals in the race to Paris.
Italian Nibali (Astana) was the quickest of the four favourites for the overall title, clocking 15mins 39secs.
That was seven seconds quicker than Briton Chris Froome (Team Sky), who finished in 15:46 to place 39th.
Spaniard Alberto Contador (Tinkoff-Saxo) conceded 15 seconds to Nibali in finishing in 15:54, while Colombian Nairo Quintana (Movistar) was three seconds further back.
