ITV's Global Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy
We create and showcase content by, with and for everyone, connecting and reflecting modern audiences
Mainstream Content
We champion diversity through our mainstream content
We want everyone to enjoy content that reflects their experiences, celebrating what makes us different and also what connects us.
That’s why ITV launched its Diversity Commissioning Fund, reserving £80 million over three years (2022-2024) to drive change towards racial and disability equity, when it comes to whose stories are being told and who is given opportunities in TV production.
Creating Opportunities
We create equitable opportunities for people at ITV and across the industry
We work to ensure that everyone has opportunities to thrive at ITV and beyond. We continue to ask every programme maker we commission to embed DEI in their production by applying our Production Principles.
We invest in developing underrepresented talent in our workforce, on- and off-screen. Highlights include our £500k Diversity Development Fund to help develop people and ideas that can qualify for the Diversity Commissioning Fund, and initiatives like Step Up 60, Disabled Writers in Development, and Fresh Cuts.
Inclusive Culture
We each play our part to create an inclusive culture at ITV
ITV is for everyone. We want to foster a culture where everyone can be themselves and receive the support they need to thrive. We work to ensure all voices are represented through our fantastic colleague networks.
We have a global workforce and all play our part in delivering ITV’s global Diversity Acceleration Plan. We upskill all colleagues through DEI training, and work to achieve equitable hiring, retention and promotion practices. We give all staff, especially leaders, the tools and encouragement to take responsibility to embed DEI in all our work.
Accessibility and Disability Equity
This is built into everything we do at ITV, including our programmes, processes and places
Accessibility forms the critical foundation of our strategy. We launched the world’s first free 24/7 British Sign Language channel on ITVX. ITV is an active member of the TV Access Project (TAP), a joint initiative created by ten of the UK's main broadcasters and streamers to embed accessibility and achieve full inclusion for Disabled people by 2030.
ITV Studios' first in-house Access Coordinator, Bethany Matthews, embeds accessibility in productions across all our in-house drama labels, ensuring people make adjustments so the cast and crew can do their best work.
