Well, it’s a long old way from Weatherfield, but Craig Charles is in the mood for adventure after celebrating half a decade in this world.
“I’ve been asked before to go on the programme and I have always said no,” the guy you probably know best as Lloyd Mullaney admits. “The timing hasn’t been right with story lines. But I turned 50 this year and I thought I should do it now while I can still parachute in!”
He’s clearly not afraid of heights, but there must be something he’s concerned about…? “I am not scared of rats, bugs or heights,” he claims, “but aside from my wife, Jacquie, and my two daughters, I am going to really miss my funk and soul. I have spent my life with Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder!”
As an actor, will he be playing a particular part Down Under? “There are so many roles you can play in the jungle. I am a father and I am used to being a father. I am also used to the funny role and I can tell an anecdote or two!”
Will there be a more emotional and serious character lurking under the cheeky chappy's humour? “Oh gosh no. It’s a TV show! It’s a game!”
Famous last words, Craig? Only time will tell.
