Stanley Johnson
Occupation: Author and Ex-PoliticianAge: 77Phobias: I will be ok on that front, but obviously I don’t want to be bitten by a black widow spider.Biggest misconception you want to dispel in the Jungle: I don’t have any conceptions about myself as I don’t think I'm famous at all and that’s rather a relief!Role in the Camp: I’m assuming I am going to be one of the younger competitors so I will try to help people my age or more... And I hope I won’t be too exhausted to make the odd joke! What you will miss the most: My family. Fortunately, I’ve got a big family and I will be back in time for Christmas.Dream Campmate: Ian Redmond, tropical field biologist and conservationist – he’s a man who has absolutely adapted to life in the wild.
We can’t help but wonder if former politician Stanley knows what he’s let himself in for – having never watched an episode of I’m A Celebrity… before!
The 77-year-old is up for the adventure though, stating: “I am very much looking forward to it. I love Australia and I’ve done lots of different things in my life but I would say that I have not lived in a Jungle before.”
And as the father of the Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, what will Stanley’s children make of his Jungle journey?
“It’s an absolute secret as far as they are concerned,” he confides, adding: “I don’t think they will find out unless they turn the telly on. They are all very busy.”
Although he’s used to getting his point across, the author insists he won’t be concerned with holding court.
“I think one will have debates around the campfire. I certainly don’t want to be the only one heard in particular,” Stanley explains. “I am interested in hearing other people’s voices.”
And as for the prospect of the dreaded Bushtucker Trials? “It’s all totally new to me, I know absolutely nothing about it but I’ve been told about it and obviously I am ready to give it a go.”
This is certainly one Campmate to watch!
