All About Victoria Derbyshire
The glamour of the TV studio will be a distant memory for broadcaster and journalist Victoria Derbyshire. Determined to take on new challenges after beating breast cancer, life in Camp will certainly be an experience to remember!
"This is a mad thrill adventure that I want to take part in," says the distinguished news presenter. "Because of cancer, I know more than lots of people that life is short. I’m now saying yes to stuff I wouldn’t have done previously. And if I don’t do my boys proud, I’ll never live it down!"
Victoria says her whole family are behind her. "My boys think it’s cool I’m doing it because this is their programme of the year. My husband said if it makes me happy, he’s happy. They’re on the journey with me!"
So how does Victoria think she’ll get on in the Trials? "There is no way I will point blank refuse to do a Trial. You watch it and think, ‘there’s no way I could do that’, but when they get into Camp something changes and I love that," she says.
The mum of two reckons she’ll bring her maternal side to Camp, but also won’t be afraid to speak up. "I’m quite good at saying uncomfortable things that need to be said in an alright way. This will be the ultimate test!" She adds: "I can’t cook, but I’m a good listener and I enjoy talking to people. I’m looking forward to having some fun and making some new friends."
But surely Victoria’s not looking forward to facing her fear of spiders? "Whenever I see one now, I allow it to crawl on my hand."
We’ve got a feeling Victoria will be facing a few more than that in the I'm A Celebrity... Castle!
