All About Beverley Callard

Corrie Icon Beverley Callard is a long-standing Queen of the Cobbles, but will she emerge as Queen of the Castle too?

"Doing I’m A Celebrity... is an adventure and definitely out of my comfort zone!" Beverley laughs, revealing that she finally agreed to take part in the show after making the big decision to quit Coronation Street earlier this year, having played the legendary Liz McDonald for 31 years.

Beverley insists she’s nothing like her on-screen character, though. "I’ve played Liz for so long, people think I’m quite glamorous and covered in make-up all the time," she explains. "I think they think I’ll be going in with a Wonder bra on and a very short skirt! But to be totally honest I’m just the opposite - I’m quite at home in comfy, baggy clothes."

The prospect of sharing the Castle with her fellow Campmates is an exciting one for Beverley, who’s been at home recovering from major hip surgery. "After lockdown because I had a hip operation I was still at home. I’m not good at being at home and haven’t met any new people for months, so this will be really good," she says, adding: "Sitting around Camp doesn’t bother me because it’s a chance to chat!"

The 63-year-old admits there are certain parts of the Castle adventure that aren’t so appealing. "The only thing that worries me is the toilet side of things and personal hygiene," she says, and knows it’ll be a wrench to leave her loved ones behind - but some more than others! "I think I’ll miss my dogs even more than Jon!" she laughs.
