7 Things We Learnt From Day 3
There were jubilant cheers and a huge sigh of relief as Amir returned to Camp a new man, having defeated the second Bushtucker Trial in style. But what important life lessons did we glean from Day 3 in the Jungle?
1. It’s not easy being clean in the jungle
A cold shower, even one surrounded by the natural beauty of the Australian Jungle, is not a place to linger for too long. It’s clear our poor Celebs are missing their favourite shower gels, and everyone’s becoming a liiiittle bit paranoid about their personal hygiene.
“I think we’re all getting stinky, we’re all trying to wash… I haven’t,” laughed Jennie.
“After a couple of days it can really start to chuck up at bit to be honest,” mused Dennis. Nice.
2. Amir’s friends keep some unusual pets
We know he’s no fan of snakes, but Amir wasn’t phased by the prospect of meeting their fishy counterparts as he approached his second Bushtucker Trial. “I’m not scared of eels, my friend has an eel at home. He showed me it.” Whatever works for you, Amir.
3. It’s not whether you get knocked down, it’s whether you get back up
Sometimes it takes a disappointing encounter with a Jungle python to find your inner strength. That, and an inspirational quote or two – of which Amir provided many as he got well and truly in the zone to take on Flushed Out. “The way you comeback from losses is you just come back stronger… I’m a champion and I’m going to remain a champion,” he practically growled. It clearly did the trick, as Amir triumphed and brought home a coveted meal ticket for his delighted Campmates.
4. Our campmates are full of surprises
Handstands on Good Morning Britain, eating placenta and a gig as a life model - Day 3’s Dingo Dollar Challenge was a veritable education of the weird and wonderful things our Celebs have done before we dropped them in the middle of the Australian Outback. We’re just off to zorb down Ben Nevis, brb…
5. Brownies = life...
They’ve been on rations a mere 72 hours, but our poor Campmates could hardly contain themselves when Toff and Stanley brought a delicious plate of chocolate brownies back to base. Cue a rare moment of silence in Camp as the brownies were devoured at record speed, interrupted only by the unmistakable 'oohs' and 'ahhs' of 10 extremely hungry Celebrities.
6. …But beans = the bane of life
As Toff, Shappi, Jennie, Vanessa, Becky and Stanley tucked into a delicious dinner of emu and vegetables, reality was really biting for the remaining Campmates over in Croc Creek. “Breakfast, lunch and dinner: rice and beans,” groaned Jamie. “I am starving. It’s so real this is,” added Amir.
7. Stanley’s puns are the gift that keeps on giving
Having graciously handed over the meal ticket he'd won, Amir was left to eat rice and beans AGAIN, while Stanley couldn’t believe his luck as he dined out on emu.
Reflecting on the experience, the author told the Bush Telegraph: “I was so privileged to be there because I was just handed this meal ticket by Amir. A-mir mortal if you like, but much more than a mortal in my eyes.”
Genius.
