6 things we learnt on Day 17
They may be in the middle of Australian Jungle, but Day 17 in Camp felt like a very British affair - there was talk of pub lunches, a good old chinwig about relationships and a trip to the boozer in a black cab. Here's what we learnt from our Celebs on Day 17.
1. Silence is (sometimes) golden
It was a subdued morning in Camp as the Celebs awaited Ant and Dec’s arrival.
All too aware of their dwindling numbers, the Campmates sat in a contemplative state – a rare moment of quiet for a Camp full of people who live life in the spotlight. To us it felt like a mark of true friendship – being able to sit side by side and not say a word. That, or they really are getting fed up of each other.
2. Stanley is a surprisingly elegant diver
Chatting to Iain about their remaining time in the Jungle, Stanley warned the radio host of an impending splash as he geared himself to dive into the creek. But his entry into the water was an absolute thing of beauty, with nothing more than a gentle ripple reaching Iain at the water's edge. Who expected that from the 77-year-old? So lithe.
3. Small men are very suited to submerged small boxes full of critters
The Temple Of Gloom Trial returned – back for another bout after it got the better of Iain on Day 7. Dennis put himself forward to give it a go, and triumphantly emerged from the water with a pocket full of stars and five minutes to spare. Standing a full 25cm shorter than Iain, we can’t help but think size was on Dennis’s side for this one.
4. We’re all up for a Sunday lunch with the Campmates
Eagerly awaiting Dennis’s return from theTrial, the Celebs were dreaming of the life they could be living back home.
“What about a pub lunch?” suggested Stanley, an idea that was met with enthusiastic approval.
“Oh I’d love that Stanley, with a nice glass of wine,” remarked Vanessa.
“Oh, there’s nothing better,” agreed Toff, as Jamie declared that they would all go for a pub lunch when they got home, not knowing that they would later be heading to The Jungle Arms for an evening of entertainment.
We’re just waiting on our invite guys. Guys?
5. Every situation feels a bit better after a good chinwag
They’re two single ladies who have recently gone through heartbreak - Vanessa and Toff’s deep and meaningful afternoon chat affirmed that while they may enjoy the finer things in life, Celebs are just like us when it comes to matters of the heart.
“I wanted to use this [experience] to get my confidence back up,” revealed Toff as she spoke of her breakup.
“Me too,” agreed Vanessa, adding: “There are things I miss. When you’ve been with someone that long they become your best friend.”
“This is the best thing that you could have done,” she assured Toff of coming into the Jungle.
The only thing missing from this lovely heart-to-heart was a cup of tea.
6. There’s nothing like the lure of the pub to help you handle a taxi full of snakes
The Rank Taxi was a 15 minute ride from hell, as the Celebs shared their cab with snakes, giant spiders and cockroaches. BUT the promise of reaching The Jungle Arms at the end – freshly stocked with booze, pizza, snacks and karaoke - made enduring the wild ride a lot easier.
“A beer and some chips, very nice,” mused Dennis ahead of the challenge.
“To the pub!” laughed Toff as she climbed into the taxi, telling her Campmates: “I will literally do anything to get to the boozer. Nothing will come between me and the booze.”
Atta girl.
