10 Mad Minutes with Extra Camp
Extra Camp is full of fantastic chaos, so in keeping with the mayhem we asked our returning Extra Camp presenters Joe Swash, Joel Dommett and Scarlett Moffatt some weird and wonderful questions as they prepare to return to the Jungle for I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! 2018.
Who’s the most Extra in Extra Camp?
Joel and Scarlett: It’s got to be Joe.Joel: Yeah, we all looked at him immediately.Joe: Not extra! Just… ok maybe a little bit.Joel: He’s the loveliest lad, but…Joe: If something’s going to go wrong it happens to me!Joel: Everything’s an amazing story. He’ll just say, "Oh this happened to me the other day", and it’ll be ridiculous. For a stand up comedian it’s a dream come true story, but it’s a daily occurrence for Joe Swash.
What skills do you need to survive the jungle as a Campmate?
Scarlett: Patience. I think that’s number one because you’ve got to be patient with people you don’t know; you’ve all been thrown together.Joel: And patient with time, it’s just so long. Normally if you’re bored for five seconds you just grab your phone and have a look at it. So you’ve got to think.Scarlett: We talked about chocolate biscuits a lot. I’d say for a few hours a day we’d talk about biscuits.Joel: The main thing I got out of I’m A Celebrity... is now I know I definitely don’t want to go to prison. Because I don’t want that much time by myself without a phone.Joe: You’ve got to have a good sense of humour. People get worked up in there and take it very seriously because it becomes your world. You’ve got to think, “You’re only there for three weeks, just enjoy it.”
What does it take to survive presenting Extra Camp?
Scarlett: I think that’s harder than being in the Jungle. The best thing but the hardest thing is trying to fit the timings. You can see on your autocue you’ve got 50 words to say but only 10 seconds to say them. It’s quite scary.Joe: You need good stamina because it’s relentless and the hours are weird. So we have to find the funny and just embrace it. The Jungle’s a good place to enjoy your work.Joel: If we hated each other it would be the worst show to work on.Scarlett: It’s great that we’ve all did the Jungle and made it to the end, so it’s a happy place because it’s got great memories.Joe: Not many people got to final and then went back so it’s an honour.Joel: It’s surreal. You’re on the set of I’m A Celebrity…! It’s like being on the set of Friends, but instead of being like, ‘Ahh, there’s Gunther!’ You’re like, ‘Ahh, there’s the Campfire!’
If you came across a crocodile in the Jungle, who would you push to the front and why?
Joe: Oh Joel, he’s built like a robot.Scarlett: Yeah, he’d do some Crossfit on it and psyche it out.Joe: Joel would get in there, and in the back of his mind he’d think, "I can use this as a workout." There’s a workout for everything with Joel. Doing a bit of rehearsals, he’ll be doing one legged squats. He really makes you feel bad about yourself sometimes.
Pitch Extra Camp to someone who’s never seen it before, elevator style.
Scarlett: It’s like speaking to the biggest fan of I’m A Celebrity… ever. Finding out all the gossip, playing silly games, going behind the scenes, it’s really funny and we have good guests on.Joel: It’s basically an in-depth, fun show about I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! with three firm friends. One is Scarlett Moffatt, one is Joe Swash and one is Joel Patrick Dommett. We have a fun old time and it’s an entertaining example of television for an hour every single night until you never want to watch it for a whole year.Joe: Get yourself down to the Jungle, it’s a lovely place to go. Sometimes it’s sunny, sometimes it rains - the weather is very variable which is nice, it keeps you on toes. We have a lot of fun on there, we gossip; sometimes we make the gossip up. There are no real rules, you can say what you want. Come down, the money’s good. Sold!
If Instagram closed your account, what would be the most likely reason?
Joel: Too many naked pictures… Joe just keeps posting them of me.Joe: Inactivity, they’ll just cancel my account because I don’t use it.Scarlett: Mine would be too many inspirational quotes.Joel: "Look inside yourself and you’ll find what’s within then without what’s inside you cannot see what’s in your eyes…"
Would you rather have 1000 cockroaches in your house or 1 giant emu?
Scarlett and Joe: Cockroaches.Joel: I’d have the emu guys.Scarlett: Oh, when I did that Trial - they’re so scary. I’ve never been so scared. It was awful.Joe: They’re so big - their toenails are like daggers. Anything with wings, I hate it. Even pigeons.Joel: Emus can’t fly. It’s just pointless, kind of like mens' nipples.
What would you rather put in your mouth - a fish eyeball or Joel’s toe?
Scarlett: Joel’s toe. He’s very hygienic.Joel: Thanks. I do change my socks every day.
