President Trump: Las Vegas shooting was 'an act of pure evil'

Donald Trump has addressed the United States following the deadly massacre at a Las Vegas music festival, calling it 'an act of pure evil'.

Meanwhile, the death toll has risen to 58, with 515 people hurt, the local sheriff has said.

The President spoke from the White House after 64-year-old Stephen Paddock opened fire with a machine gun from a window of a nearby hotel. Police found him dead soon after the attack and are now hunting a 62-year-old woman, called Marilou Danley, who is thought to have been 'travelling' with the gunman.

In his sombre speech, Trump said he would be in Las Vegas on Wednesday to visit first-responders and the families of victims of the attack - the biggest massacre America has seen in modern history.

"We cannot fathom their pain, we cannot imagine their loss," Trump said.

"In times such as these I know we are searching for some kind of meaning in the chaos, some kind of light in the darkness. The answers do not come easy. But we can take solace knowing that even the darkest space can be brightened by a single light, and even the most terrible despair can be illuminated by a single ray of hope."
