What could have been going through this man's mind when he did this?

Police are looking for a jogger after shocking footage showed the man pushing a female pedestrian into the path of an oncoming bus.

The 33-year-old woman escaped death only because the bus driver swerved in time to miss her. So, what could possibly be going through someone's mind for them to commit such a dangerous act?

Head of Psychology at Birmingham City University, Professor Craig Jackson, gave us some insight.

"I think what we're looking at here is an embodiment of what we often see as 'cis privilege' - or you might want to call it white male privilege," he said.

"This is clearly an individual, who, upon seeing someone in his path, veers towards them and not only does he barrel them over but he continues to run down the road without even looking back to make sure they're okay. That to me is quite horrifying behaviour and I think what we're looking at here is the pedestrian equivalent of road rage.

"It's very, very worrying at all, it could have been murder of manslaughter."

Watch the video above to hear more of Professor Jackson's theories, including on whether he thinks the man might have known is victim.
