Should prisoners be allowed to vote?

I've dealt with loads of prisoners over the years and not one has said the worst thing about being in prison is not being able to vote. It's not a human right, it's a civil right.

Bob Turney, former convict and probation officer

Prisoners WILL soon be allowed the vote as long as they are sentenced to less than a year in jail and are allowed out on day release, according to a new report.

Currently no prisoners have the right to vote in the UK but the Justice Secretary David Lidington is said to have decided to end the existing ban after a 12-year battle between Britain and the European Court of Human Rights.

The court has repeatedly ruled that the blanket ban breaches prisoners' human rights.

Doctor Peter Shelby, former Bishop of HM Prisons, revealed why he agrees with the decision while former convict and probation officer Bob Turney believes otherwise.
