London attack: Seven killed and 48 injured, many with 'life-threatening injuries'

Seven people are dead and 21 are fighting for their lives after terrorists struck in Central London last night, in an attack the Prime Minister has condemned as "evil".

Three male suspects were shot dead by Scotland Yard officers, who were on the scene minutes after reports of a vehicle ploughing through pedestrians on London Bridge followed by stabbings at nearby Borough Market. The attackers were wearing what appeared to be explosive vests but they turned out to be a hoax.

There was also a stabbing incident in Vauxhall, which Metropolitan Police later confirmed as unrelated to the attacks.

More than 80 medics were sent to the scene to attend 48 wounded, many of which have "life-threatening" injuries, Theresa May said.

Speaking from Downing Street this morning she urged people to "go about their lives as they usually would" and confirmed that Thursday's General Election will "go ahead as planned" - though the Conservative and Labour parties will suspend campaigning for today.
