Living with early onset dementia

Every now and then you get a glimmer... then he's gone again

Kelly Fraser's husband Ian was diagnosed aged 47

The number of people living with early onset dementia has doubled in recent years - and 40, 000 people are living with the incurable condition in the UK today.

Kelly Fraser, whose husband Ian was diagnosed with early onset dementia at 47, joined Piers and Susanna in the studio to describe how the condition has affected their family.

"On the whole it's been hell" - Kelly recalls how her husband's relationship with their son, Tommy, has also deteriorated, as the young boy has "kind of given up" asking his dad to play.

Piers and Susanna were also joined by Emmerdale's John Middleton, who is currently depicting a similar storyline in the soap. John describes the soap's "need" to get the storyline right and to ensure they didn't do sufferers and their loved ones an "immense disservice".
