Heels 4 Hearts raises half a million

Back in March, Good Morning Britain ran our #Heels4Hearts campaign to help give secondary school pupils in the UK the opportunity to learn cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

In Norway, where children are taught CPR in schools, people have a 1 in 4 chance of surviving an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, whereas in the UK where it's not taught, the survival rate is 1 in 10. We wanted to change that.

We appealed to the public to donate unwanted, wearable shoes to British Heart Foundation (BHF) shops during the campaign which would go towards funding CPR training kits in secondary schools and sixth form colleges across the UK.

A whole host of celebrities also donated their shoes for our #Heels4Hearts campaign, including Sir Tom Jones, Jonathan Ross, Gavin and Stacey star Alison Steadman and Dame Helen Mirren.

We can now reveal that the shoes that were donated raised an astonishing £453,607.82

The amount of schools which will now receive CPR training kits from the British Heart Foundation is 432.

Over £10k was raised just from the 128 pairs of celebrity shoes, with one pair going for over £600!

Corinne Bishop, Head of Campaigns, Good Morning Britain, said: "We live in a world where finding time to do anything extra on top of our daily lives can sometimes be a challenge but thousands of people, including some of the world's most famous names not only found time but took time to search for shoes and donate.

"The result is that over 400 schools will now be teaching children life saving CPR skills. Thank you so much to all who donated to Heels 4 Hearts."
