GMB Poll: 69% say kids should NOT have to do homework during the summer hols
Is summer all about having fun or should youngsters be made to do some homework too? Based on a poll we released on Twitter this morning, 69% of viewers reckon kids should not have to do extra work during the holidays.
We invited Stephen Drew from Channel 4's Educating Essex and Toby Young, Director of New Schools Network, to get their thoughts on the subject.
Stephen is firmly of the view that summer should be used as an opportunity to take a break, insisting that that 'children have enough to do during school time and deserve their holidays ... and that you're only young once'.
However, Toby Young thinks kids should be given a certain amount of stimulating projects to work on throughout the summer, citing research that says homework is absolutely key to improved school results.
Jeremy Kyle lies somewhere in the middle, but definitely reckons his co-presenter could benefit from a bit of homework. We don't agree, our Kate's telly skills are A+++
