David Blunkett labels Jeremy Corbyn's re-election a 'catastrophe'
Former Home Secretary David Blunkett says the re-election of Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader is a "catastrophe".
Writing in today's Daily Mail, he says the Labour party is no longer electable and will become irrelevant if it fails to change.
The criticism comes as the Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell prepares to tell the party conference today that a future Labour government will intervene in the economy to bring about a "manufacturing renaissance".
The shadow chancellor has promised that a Labour government will offer an "interventionist government" which will protect key British businesses from global market pressures.
John McDonnell will use his keynote speech at the Labour party's annual conference to herald a post-Brexit
He will accuse the Conservative government of undermining the potential of UK industries by cutting scientific research spending as well as planning to reduce investment in infrastructure like housing and transport.
