Alan Kurdi's aunt urges action on refugee crisis one year after her nephew's death

I'm calling on the world's leaders - sit down at the table and talk seriously. Stop the war in Syria

Tima Kurdi, Alan Kurdi's Aunt

Exactly a year ago, the world was shocked by the image of three year-old Alan Kurdi washed up on a Turkish beach.

The Syrian refugee, his brother and mother all drowned on their journey to escape the civil war in their homeland.

But since the tragedy, the number of migrant deaths has risen. Over the past year, the equivalent of one person has died every 80 minutes. That's an increase of a fifth, compared to the year before Alan Kurdi's death.

Alan Kurdi's aunt, Tima Kurdi, says it's time for the world's leaders to sit down and discuss the situation seriously.
