The vegan debate: Piers challenges George Monbiot for wearing leather watch

I'm not being 100 per cent purist about this but I am trying to persuade people to change their habits in quite a radical way

Burgers made with synthetic meat, meat grown in Chinese laboratories, road kill, soya replacement and plant-based diets is what our future of food looks like, according to vegan writer and broadcaster, George Monbiot.

He wants all livestock banned and believes the arrival of cheap artificial meat will mean an end to traditional farming practices which are, he says, destroying the countryside. He's even gone as far as saying future generations will look back at today's slaughtering of animals for food with horror, comparing it to slavery, torture, genocide and more.

We put the artificial chicken to the taste test - and unsurprisingly, Piers wasn't impressed...

We took some artificial 'chicken' out for a public taste test before George joined us to debate the issue alongside chef Antony Worrall Thompson - and things got rather heated, especially when Piers spotted George wearing a watch seemingly made from leather...
