'I Just took against her' - Michael Parkinson on that awkward Meg Ryan interview
When you've had a career as long as mine, you have lots of cringeworthy moments
He's known as the chat show king with a remarkable 50 years in the business and now Michael Parkinson is back with a live tour that will reveal what really happened in his most famous on-screen encounters - including his disastrous interview with a moody Meg Ryan.
When asked by Piers Morgan which interview he would do again, he said he'd like to have another chance with the actress, who was famously prickly with him. "We were both in a fairly grim mood, I think," he told Good Morning Britain.
"I don't know what happened, I just took against her. There was another way to handle that actually and extract more fun than I got."
And speaking about an interview with actress Helen Mirren that quickly turned frosty after he asked her about her 'physical attributes', he told us: "When you've had a career as long as mine, you have lots of cringeworthy moments".
Parky also touched upon the interviews that are memorable for all the right reasons, including the four times he had legendary boxer Mohammad Ali on his sofa.
"When he walked into the studio there was an audible gasp, he was a beautiful man", he said.
An Evening With Michael Parkinson is touring the UK from September
