Should we ban online shopping on Christmas Day?
After filling up your belly on Christmas Day, is it wrong to empty your wallet to a bargain online?
A senior bishop wants to ban online shopping on 25th December, saying it gets in the way of family time, and he would support a new law that would only allow online use for essential services.
This comes as new research predicts we will splash out more than £1 billion this year on Christmas Day sales!
This morning we were joined by Catholic journalist Caroline Farrow, who agrees with the bishop and thinks we’ve forgotten what Christmas is all about.
She said: “Can’t we have one day off where we spend it with family - where we relax - where we’re not worried about spending money.”
However, consumer journalist Harry Wallop believes there’s nothing wrong with doing a major shopping spree and getting some great online bargains.
