Unsettled weather for the weekend
Read Laura Tobin's weather blog to find out what's in store for the weather this weekend.
A battleground has been set up this week with a mild southwesterly bringing the warmest day of the year in Scotland on Tuesday. We’ve then had an easterly wind bringing cooler cloudier conditions from the east. As we head into the weekend the easterly wind will relinquish its grip and the Atlantic will take over in dramatic style with a wet and windy start to the weekend for many.
Weekend weather
The break down for the weekend weather starts on Friday, we pull in a southeasterly wind, which unusually will brings back the rain we had on Wednesday/Thursday. It’ll have milder continental air tied in with in bringing heavier rain than we’ve been used to, the risk of localised surface water flooding and also some thundery downpours.
Most of England and later Scotland will have a wet day. Western areas will be mostly fine and dry.
Saturday
Saturday will start wet for Scotland and Northern Ireland as Friday’s rain still hangs on. It’ll pull away as we head through the day. Then our attention turns to the Atlantic as an area of low pressure moves into the southwest. This will bring a narrow band of heavy rain into southwest England, spreading across Wales and the rest of England through the day. Heavy and possibly thunder storms will follow behind into the southwest. We’ll all have some sunny spells in between the rain/showers. It’ll also be windy with the risk of Gales in the south.
Sunday
Sunday will be quieter with lighter winds. The rain will have cleared and while there will be scattered showers they won’t be as heavy.
Next week
It’s a quieter start to the week after a blustery weekend. Tuesday and Wednesday we’ll see more rain spreading across the country with colder air flowing in behind. Cold enough for frosts by night and even snow to return, but only over the Scottish mountains!
Brollies at the ready and keep those gloves handy too!
