Woman stabbed by stalker after police ignored 125 reports

A woman who was stabbed in the neck and face by her stalker after police ignored 125 reports she made has told Good Morning Britain she fears him coming out of prison "every day".

Helen Pearson was harassed by her neighbour Joseph Willis for five years after declining a date with him. The stalking started off as silent phone calls and escalated into threatening letters and a dead cat being left outside her door.

In one letter he even wrote: "What will you do when I attack you? Will you fight, will you scream? Let the game begin." However the police failed to take action, despite her numerous reports.

Luckily Helen survived the attack - and the police have since apologised - but she can't forgive and lives in fear of when his life with 13 years sentence is up.

"For me a sorry can mean sorry if it comes with consistent effort for change and we're not seeing that," she told Piers and Susanna. "That's not happening, so to me that's empty words."
