Sir Geoff Hurst joins campaign to get 1966 World Cup final footage colourised for the first time ever
England’s World Cup-winning hat-trick hero Sir Geoff Hurst has joined a campaign to help colourise footage of the entire 1966 World Cup Final for the first time.
It's a world first - footage of the whole game in colour does not exist and it's been that way for the past 54 years.
Only those in the stands at Wembley on 30 July 1966 have ever seen the full match in colour.
If enough funds are raised, the colouring work will be done by the team behind Sir Peter's Jackson's World War One film, 'They Shall Not Grow Old'.
The campaign is in partnership with The Alzheimer's Society who are one of this year's 1 Million Minutes campaign and Sir Geoff has expressed why fighting loneliness is more important than ever in 2020.
The aim is for the game to be streamed next July 30 2021 — 55 years to the day since Sir Bobby Moore lifted the Jules Rimet trophy.
