Should new cycling laws be introduced?

Drivers can be prosecuted for death by dangerous driving, but is it time to introduce a death by cycling law?

This comes after the husband of a woman who was killed by a cyclist called for radical changes in the cycling culture and much tougher laws.

Charlie Alliston, 20, was travelling at 18mph when he crashed into mother-of-two Kim Briggs in February last year. The cyclist was convicted of “furious driving” and bodily harm, but cleared of any manslaughter charges.

In a heated debate, Richard Madeley locked horns with the Cycling UK spokesman Duncan Dollimore about the accountability of cyclists on the road.
